How to Keep Your Bouquet Fresh After Delivery — 10 Tips from ROZY Florists

You have just received a beautiful bouquet via flower delivery. What should you do next to make the flowers last as long as possible? ROZY florists share their professional secrets.

10 bouquet care tips

1
Remove the wrapping right away
Film and paper keep the flowers from breathing. Unwrap the bouquet as soon as you receive it.
2
Trim the stems at an angle
Cut 2–3 cm off each stem at a 45° angle with a sharp knife or pruners. This increases the water-absorbing surface.
3
Use a clean vase
Wash the vase with soap before use. Bacteria in a dirty vase make flowers wilt faster.
4
Fill with room-temperature water
Cold water slows down absorption. Use water at room temperature (18–22°C).
5
Remove leaves below the waterline
Leaves left in the water rot and contaminate it. Strip off any leaves that would sit underwater.
6
Change the water every 2 days
Fresh water is the number-one condition for a long-lasting bouquet. Change the water and re-trim the stems every 2 days.
7
Keep away from sun and heat
Direct sunlight and heat speed up wilting. Place the bouquet in a cool spot away from drafts.
8
Add aspirin or sugar
An aspirin tablet or a teaspoon of sugar per litre of water helps flowers live longer.
9
Mist the petals
A light misting with a spray bottle refreshes the flowers, especially in hot weather.
10
Move it somewhere cool overnight
At night, move the bouquet to a cooler place (a balcony or hallway). This noticeably extends the life of the flowers.
